Winnebago Reveals New Wheelchair Friendly Motorhomes

Mobility-challenged people always faced huge obstacles when it comes to the RV lifestyle – until now. Winnebago Industries just rolled out their gorgeous new wheelchair friendly motorhomes, the Intent 30R AE, Adventurer 30T AE, and Forza 34T AE.

Totally Customizable Wheelchair Friendly Motorhomes

Winnebago’s Accessibility-Enhanced (AE) line, includes the Intent 30R AE, Adventurer 30T AE, and Forza 34T AE.

The freedom to roam with your home is something most RVers take for granted – except for those people who rely on a mobility device to get around in the world. The 15 million people in the U.S. who need a wheelchair, walker or cane usually have few options for RV travel. Starting in 2019, the innovative RV designers at Winnebago Industries changed all that. The company’s specialty RV division just launched three new RVs made exclusively for mobility-challenged campers. Each rig can be ordered from RV dealers around the country.

“Before our accessibility-enhanced Winnebago, the thought of going on vacation was more stressful than just staying at home,” said Mike Freeman, Winnebago Forza 34T owner. In a Winnebago press release, Freeman explained the travel challenges other travelers don’t experience.

“Most people take for granted the ability to hop in a car, plane, train at will to take a vacation, visit friends and family, or explore a new destination. Our accessibility-enhanced RV has opened up a wider and richer world for our whole family and even makes day trips easier. We can leave the house with confidence, and excitement, rather than anxiety and stress. I hope more people like us will discover their freedom and adventure with Winnebago’s new offerings.”

Meet Winnebago’s New Accessibility-Enhanced RV Features

The Winnebago Accessibility-Enhanced RV Lineup features the most popular requests from physically challenged people, such as:

  • Platform wheelchair lift with an 800-pound lifting capacity
  • Powered roll-up lift door, with wall-mount and key-fob remote controls for wheelchair entry and exit
  • Expanded hallway and bathroom areas for greater accessibility featuring:
  • Large roll-in shower with an assist bar and available folding bench seat, with extended lever faucet controls and adjustable shower head
  • Raised toilet with assist bars
  • Roll under sink
  • Electric adjustable queen bed
  • Thermostatically or remote-control roof vents
  • Wall-mounted light and generator switches
  • Lower installation of the systems monitor panel
  • Optional 6-way power transfer seat
  • Optional lower microwave placement

Three standardized floor plans are available for the wheelchair friendly motorhomes. The lineup is made up of the Intent 30R AE, the Adventurer 30T AE, and the Forza 34T AE, a diesel pusher. The mid-sized rigs are exclusively for RVers with wheelchairs and walkers. Each model can be further customized depending on a buyer’s needs.

For example, a buyer can request a specific heights for the beds and toilets. Need more handrails? Not a problem, Winnebago will add them into the rig. And there’s even an optional ceiling track system installation for mobility without a wheelchair. Even more customization is offered with specific furniture requests, cabinetry, and aesthetic changes to the rig.

Easier RV Travel for the Whole Family

The new wheelchair friendly motorhomes make travel easier for physically challenged people and service animals alike. The Winnebago accessibility-enhanced RVs open up a whole new kind of adventure for the entire family. And with RV trip planning help through the many online resources for RVers with mobility challenges, owners of the Intent, Adventurer and the Forza can more easily experience North America’s greatest wheelchair friendly destinations and beyond.

View All Thor Chateau Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
23 12300-14500 lbs 4-7 24-32 feet

Why we recommend the Thor Chateau class C motorhome: Thor Chateau had made it on the 2017 iteration of this list, and our choice hasn’t changed. If anything, Thor has made quite a few improvements to the Chateau with new floorplans, better sleeping capacity and better features. Its adequately constructed too, with the Chateau 22B weighing 12300 pounds and holding 4 people. All 23 floorplans have bunk over cab but the maximum sleeping capacity you can get is 7 on a floorplan like the Chateau 30D.

Feature-wise, the Chateau has definitely set itself apart. For instance, it has swiveling seat on both drivers and passanger’s chairs in the cockpit for 2 people to sit on when you’re at the campground. In the kitchen, a 16 feet refrigerator easily raises and eyebrow and once you notice everything else it has to offer, you’d already be willing to seal the deal. View All Coachmen Freelander Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
20 8140-12728 lbs 5-8 23-31 feet

Why we recommend Coachmen Freelander class C motorhome: If you need something on the lighter end with a higher sleeping capacity, then the freelander should set you in the right direction. All of its 20 floorplans have bunkhouses ranging from the Freelander 20CB Ford starting at 23 feet all the way to the 12728-pounder 31-feet-long Freelander 32FS Ford. There are many of them in between that are a good mix of length, weight and sleeping capacity so be sure to check them out too!

View All Coachmen Leprechaun Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
18 10288-12867 lbs 5-9 24-32 feet

Why we recommend the Coachmen Leprechaun class C motorhome: The Coachmen Leprechaun is another one which made our list last year. The number of floorplans or the physical specs haven’t changed since last year, but coachmen has added some new features to make it better over the existing modes, but more on that later. The Leprechaun 280BH Ford 450 and the Leprechaun 310BH Ford 450 are our top choices because of their sleeping capacity, but be sure to check out the other ones, as they are just as good as any class C motorhome with bunk beds out there!

Heading onto the features, we found the even-cool A/C ducting system and the upgraded vinyl flooring quite impressive, but most folks would probably be more interested in the U-shaped dinette and the reclining passanger and driver seats that this RV has to offer. Safety is also taken care of as the Leprechaun as safety measures such as carbon monoxide and smoke detectors put into place and lastly, there are numerous upgrades to opt for in order to expand this class Cs capabilities, making the Leprechaun the complete package!

  • 18 different floor plans available
  • Solar panel connection port

  • LED exterior tail and running lights

View All Gulf Stream Conquest Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
12 12500-14500 lbs 5-8 24-32 feet

Why we recommend the Gulf Stream Conquest class C motorhome: Of the gulf stream’s number of RVs is one particular class C called the conquest which definitely had our attention, and for a good reason. Despite its comparatively decent spec sheet, it has some features that actually made it stand apart. Of course, its decent spec sheet does feature floorplans with bunk beds such as the Conquest 6526 and the Conquest 63111.

On the inside, the conquest features Roanoke light cherry cabinetry and a skydome shower while being solidly constructed out of aluminum on the outside. Standalone upgrades aside, it also features an already added package that brings many new luxury based features such as a number of stainless steel applicances and an IRD dual battery charging system. Small Yet Spacious!

View All Jayco Redhawk Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
7 14200-14500 lbs 3-10 24-33 feet

Why we recommend Jayco Redhawk class C motorhome: Jayco’s Redhawk is often shadowed by the its Greyhawk cousin simply due to the fact that the latter is the more popular one. However, the Redhawk is actually a better choice if one were to consider a good class C motorhome with bunk beds. Its maximum sleeping capacity is actually 10 people on the Redhawk 31XL floorplan and 3 on the Redhawk 22J floorplan, making it quite versatile for people with different requirements, all within just 7 floorplans, which is saying something.

The Redhawk is no slouch when it comes to driving features either, which is evident when you notice that it sports power anti-lock brakes, power steering and side view remote controlled mirrors. Looks are paid attention to as well since it features linoleum flooring. You can also upgrade the regular awning to the 12V electric patio awning or maybe add a rear view backup camera with its optionals (check the out the full list, it’s a long one!). 18 28700-36000 lbs 4-7 34-43 feet

Why we recommend the Newmar Ventana class A motorhome: Tipping the scales on the heavier side of things is the Newmar Ventana whose lightest floorplan is still a massive one at 28700 lbs. 17 out of its total 18 floorplans have at least 3 slide outs such as the Ventana 3407 and the Ventana 3709, so you’re definitely all set if the sleek looks and the interior decor seems good enough to you. It does have a decent housing capacity of 7 people, and can span as much as 43 feet long, making it pretty spacious too!

View All Tiffin Allegro Bus Class A Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
7 41000-51000 lbs 4-5 38-45 feet

Why we recommend Tiffin Allegro Bus class A motorhome: What is considered as a ‘large’ motorhomes usually caps out between 40 and 43 feet. But the Allegro Bus by Tiffin edges beyond it with the Allegro Bus 45 OPP floorplan that is 45 feet long. Of course, ones who aren’t all for this extreme can go for the smaller but still just as luxurious Allegro Bus 37 AP floorplan, making this camper a truly versatile one.

Constructed out of fiberglass, the exterior of this RV has probably as much to say about it as the interior such as the high-performance thermal insulation thanks to the fiberglass material and the one-piece tined windshield for easier vision when driving. Heading inside to the driver’s seat you’ll notice that Tiffin has been extra cautious and added a 12V disconnect switch. Akin to a fifth wheel and a travel trailer you also have options to make it better such as a memory foam mattress and a bedroom TV.

Why we recommend the Newmar Dutch Star class A motorhome: Whether its due to their cozier 37-feet Dutch Star 3717 floorplan or due to the 6-sleeper Dutch Star 4363 floorplan, campers have always recommended their Dutch Star to anyone else inquiring about them, and we don’t disagree either. Apart from the ones we mentioned, it has 13 other floorplans, all of which feature at least 3 slide outs too, providing you with quite a few options!

Few class As in the market can boast their level of driving experience to be the same as the Dutch Star, and for a good reason. Why we recommend Newmar Bay Star class A motorhome: While it’s obvious that a good motorhome can be made by any company, you’ll also find that Newmar seems to be proving itself as one of the most impressive companies right now. Look at the Bay Star here as an instance. View All Thor Chateau Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
23 12300-14500 lbs 4-7 24-32 feet

Why we recommend the Thor Chateau class C motorhome: A class A’s larger size doesn’t necessary translate to them having the best sleeping capacity. On the contrary you’ll find that some class Cs such as the Chateau by Thor actually has a sleeping capacity of 7 people in its Chateau 28E floorplan, which is better than some of the class As out there. Another great floorplan that we recommend is the Chateau 30D.

When you get into the features, you’ll see that the Chateau has just as much to boast about as it does with the specifications. From the residential vinyl flooring to a power charging center, it has all the bells and whistles of a standard class C and then some. Why we recommend the Fleetwood Bounder class A motorhome: If its Fleetwood’s Bounder class A that’s caught your attention because you recognize it from a happy owner on a forum or through word-of-mouth (neither of which are too surprising considering it’s reputation), then be prepared to be looking at 3 floorplans in particular. The Bounder 36F and Bounder 36H both provide bunkhouses, but the former has two full bathrooms whilst the latter has a bath and a half. The Bounder 36D has a single bathroom.

View All Coachmen Freelander Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
20 8140-12728 lbs 5-8 23-31 feet

Why we recommend the Coachmen Freelander Class C motorhome: When it comes to finding a class C that you could park in a campground, few could be as good as the Coachmen Freelander. Most of the floorplans available are pretty lightweight as well. Tipping the scales at the lowest is the Freelander 20CB and the heaviest being the Freelander 31BH Ford 450 at 12728 pounds. You don’t sacrifice on the sleeping capacity either, as it can house as many as 8 people, making this a suitable camper for both couples and people looking to camp with their friends!

As far as features go, the Freelander offers quite a lot which one would associate with a premium motorhome. View All Coachmen Leprechaun Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
18 10288-12867 lbs 5-9 24-32 feet

Why we recommend the Coachmen Leprechaun Class C motorhome: Another one from Coachmen’s stables that made the list is the Leprechaun.  The Leprechaum is also featured in our previous post about the best motorhomes with bunk beds. The Leprechaun is quite similar to the other campers here with the exception that it has the highest sleeping capacity of 9 people in the Leprechaun 310BH Ford floorplan. But you’ll probably be interested in something such as the Leprechaun 210QB Chevy, which is an under 27-feet floorplan suitable for campground.

The Leprechaun has a lot to say about its features as well. Things such as the exterior TV compartment with receptacle and coax connection or a walkable roof would make ideal for tail gators. If you’re more interested in staying indoors for your trip you can enjoy the comfort of the Jackknife sofa that can be converted into an auxiliary bed and watch some TV. Apart from these, those who have been into camping would like to upgrade this rig, and can do so with options such as an upgraded TV and A/C, slideout awnings, convection microwave and more!  In a nutshell, the Coachmen Leprechaun is another one of the best small motorhomes for campgrounds in the market right now!

Key Features:

#4. Gulf Stream Conquest Class C Motorhome

A Window Into What Makes a Perfect Motorhome!

View All Gulf Stream Conquest Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
12 12500-14500 lbs 5-8 24-32 feet

Why we recommend the Gulf Stream Conquest class C motorhome: You’ll be hard pressed to find something that’s as versatile as the Gulf Stream Conquest Class C, which is especially impressive for a motorhome that only has 12 floorplans, half of which are actually ones that are under 27 feet in length such as the Conquest 6220. Even the ones over 27 feet aren’t that long, such as the Conquest 6320 spanning 32 feet.

The Conquest brings as much to the table in terms of features as it does in terms of specs. This is confirmed when you take a look at the furnishing such as the soft-touch vinyl jackknife sofa, pleated window shades among others. Its also got a decent set of appliances for general convenience and safety such as CO, LP Leak detector and fire extinguisher. If you want to give it a bit more oomph, the Conquest also has a lot of options such as an upgraded AC, rear window, stainless steel wheel liners and many more!

Key Features:

  • 12 different floor plans available
  • Radius ducted EPDM rubber roof
  • Roanoke light cherry cabinetry
  • Carbon monoxide and LP leak detectors
  • Upgraded LED interior and exterior lighting

Short and Sweet!

View All Winnebago Navion Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
4 11030 lbs 5 25 feet

Why we recommend Winnebago Navion Class C motorhome: While we’ve discussed the popular motorhomes, a particular one which probably goes unnoticed is the Winnebago Navion.  There are a good chunk of adventurers and critics who seem to be quite satisfied with its specs and features. This rig has 4 floorplans with nothing different about them in terms of physical specs. For example, there’s no difference between the Navion 6220 and the Navion 6237 with the exception of the layouts.

The Navion is also quite impressive in terms of features. Looks or convenience, the Navion has it all.  There is a decent 6 cubic feet double door refrigerator to Roanoke light cherry cabinetry for that exquisite look. Its capabilities aren’t limited to what you see on paper, as there are many significant upgrades and additions available ranging from remote control mirrors to a 15,000 BTU air conditioner. Thus, it stands to reason that the Navion is probably one of the best  small motorhomes for campgrounds.

Key Features:

  • 4 different floor plans available
  • Magnetic door holders for storage doors
  • Generator switch and hour meter
  • Roanoke light cherry cabinetry
  • 6 cubic-feet double door refrigerator

Floorplans like the Freelander 26DS Chevy 4500 and the Freelander 31BH Ford 450 offer more slideouts, but there are others which offer different layouts as well!

View All Gulf Stream Conquest Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
12 12500-14500 lbs 5-8 24-32 feet

Why we recommend the Gulf Stream Conquest class C motorhome: If bunkhouses are a must in your hunt for small motorhomes with slideouts, then look no further than the Conquest Class C by Gulf Stream RVs. They’re Spacious, they’re durable and each and every one of them offers a bunk over cab and hence a sleeping capacity of 5 people at the very least. Of course, floorplans like the Conquest C 6317 and the Conquest C 63111 are recommended as they have 2 slideouts as well.

View All Coachmen Leprechaun Class C Motorhome Floorplans!

No. of Floorplans Unloaded Weight Sleeps Length
18 10288-12867 lbs 5-9 24-32 feet

Why we recommend the Coachmen Leprechaun class C motorhome: Another one of Coachmen’s finest is the Leprechaun class C that has a sleeping capacity of up to 9 people in the Leprechaun 310BH Ford 450 floorplan. Of course, it goes without saying that there are other floorplans with slideouts such as the Leprechaun 319MB Ford 450 among others available too. Since it has 18 floorplans in total, there’s enough layouts available to ensure that you’ll find one that’s just perfect for you.

There’s a reason why this rig scored itself a 4.5 out of 5 star rating. The Leprechaun impressed us with its features just as much, if not more than what it did with its specifications. Patio awning, vinyl flooring, solar panel connection, night shades, exterior warehouse storage are just a few of its features which are based on a solid aluminum framing and fiberglass sidewalls. Tips For Preventing RV Theft For Motorhomes, Trailers, Fifth Wheels

Many RVers are concerned about their RV being stolen from the boondocks while they are out exploring away from camp for the day.

As I have shared in past posts, you are highly unlikely to be a victim of crime in the boondocks as criminals are opportunists applying their trade where there is ample opportunity. Not much opportunity for them in the boondocks with RVers randomly spread out in the woods.

For my wife and I, our biggest concern relating to theft of our travel trailer is when we drop it along a stretch of highway while we enjoy a side trip in our tow vehicle to a ghost town or other out-of-the-way place in the middle of nowhere.

Who knows what criminal element might drive by, see our RV sitting on the side of the road and circle around for a closer inspection. Discovering it to be temporarily abandoned, it would only take a minute for a bad guy with a truck to latch onto our travel trailer and head down the road to points unknown.

Following are some methods you might use to make your RV harder to steal in your absence:

Trailer and motorhome owners can:

  • Run a chain through your wheels and suspension system padlocking the ends together. This will prevent your wheels from turning if someone tries to drive off with your RV.
  • Leave the jacks down, making the RV less mobile. I quite often put them down to level the RV to keep the refrigerator happy if we will be out exploring for hours.

Trailer owners may also consider:

stolen

Motorhome owners may also consider:

  • Using your power levers to raise the drive wheels off the ground.
  • Install a hidden switch that disables your ignition system.
  • Use a club or other device that renders the steering wheel useless.

Next time you worry about leaving your RV parked along a remote stretch of highway, in a campground, or in the boonies while you are away for the day, employing these tips will help ensure your RV is still there when you return. Because having your RV stolen is an adventure nobody wants to experience!
